Sony announces more Xperia devices to get Android 5.0 Lollipop next week
Alexandra BurlacuSony is continuing its Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout to more devices, and the company has now announced which smartphones are next in line.
A while ago Sony promised that it will upgrade its entire Xperia lineup to Android 5.0 Lollipop, and the company has already started delivering the update to select devices such as the Xperia Z3 and Xperia Z3 Compact. As always, however, the process is gradual and is spread over a period of time, which means that not all devices get the update at the same time.
The Sony Xperia Z2 and Xperia Z2 Tablet were already set to receive Android 5.0 Lollipop, and the company has now announced that the Xperia Z3 Dual, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact, and Xperia Z Ultra are the next in line to get the treat sometime next week. After that, the Sony Xperia T2 Ultra and Xperia C3 will also get the update, as previously promised.
"2/2 #Xperia Z3 Dual, Z1, Z1 Compact and Z Ultra next week, followed shortly after by T2 Ultra & C3. Then Z Series - more on timings soon," Sony announced on Tuesday, April 7, in a post on Twitter.
The Xperia Z series includes the original Xperia Z, the Xperia ZL, Xperia ZR, and the Xperia Tablet Z, but it remains unclear at this point just when exactly the Android 5.0 Lollipop update will roll out to these devices. Sony didn't provide any timeframe at this point, but should disclose more details shortly.
The company has been regularly updating its blog to provide more information on its Android 5.0 Lollipop rollout process for the Xperia family of devices, and promised to keep users up to date as it moves foward.
Android 5.0 Lollipop will bring a slew of improvements and new features to the table, aiming to enhance the overall experience and maximize the devices' potential. Highlight features include Material Design elements, Priority Mode notifications, actionable lock screen notifications, and Smart Lock, but there are plenty of other neat treats for users to enjoy.
