Nokia is reportedly working on a "Batman" Windows Phone destined for the budget-conscious. The smartphone will allegedly sport Lumia 625-like specs, including a large display.
While the tech world is mainly focusing on Nokia's upcoming launch of the low-cost Lumia 525 and the high-end Lumia 1520 and Lumia 2520 devices, the company is discreetly preparing to launch a larger-screen Lumia phone for the low-end market as well.
According to famous tipster @evleaks, who has a very good track record when it comes to outing yet-to-be-announced devices, the Lumia 1320 smartphone Nokia is prepping to launch goes by the codename "Batman."
"Nokia Batman = Lumia 1320," reads a very concise tweet from the serial leaker.
While @evleaks is already considered quite a credible source, a new report from The Verge adds more fuel to the fire, apparently confirming the tipster's news.
"Sources familiar with Nokia's plans have revealed to The Verge that a handset will fit into Nokia's portfolio of devices just above the existing Lumia 625," reports the publication. "Nokia picked a 4.7-inch display for the 625, and we're told that the company will ship Batman with a large-screen too."
"We understand that the handset is designed as the top low-end Windows Phone, but the specs will be similar to the existing Lumia 625."
In other words, Nokia is preparing to launch a Lumia 525 mostly focused on music at the very low-end segment, where it already has the Lumia 625. At the same time, the company is also prepping a low-end Lumia 1320 that would come just above the Lumia 625, with similar specs and a large screen, adding more options to its entry-level smartphone portfolio.
The Lumia 1320 "Batman" will reportedly sport a 5-megapixel rear camera and a VGA front-facing shooter. Moreover, despite the fact that it's a low-end device, the upcoming Nokia Lumia 1320 will allegedly ship with the company's new Nokia Camera app, which combines the Pro and Smart Cam features of existing apps.
According to The Verge report, the Nokia Lumia 1320 aka Batman will likely launch later this year. It remains unclear at this point whether Nokia will launch the low-end Lumia 1320 at the same time as the much-rumored 6-inch Lumia 1520 phablet and the 5-inch Lumia 929.
