In a bid to attract iOS fans, Motorola enhanced its Moto Maker service with support for transferring contacts and calendar data from iCloud to a new device.
Motorola's Moto Maker web service is the same program that allows users to customize their Moto X smartphone, which sells for $199. The Moto X has been one of the most highly-anticipated Android handsets of this year, but iFans tend to be wrapped in Apple's ecosystem and many of them find it hard to let go of that iWorld.
In an attempt to make things easier and appeal to more potential buyers who are accustomed to iOS, Motorola is now offering to migrate iCloud data to the new device via Google.
"We added the ability to migrate your iPhone contacts to the Moto X (from Motomaker.com)," announced Motorola executive Punit Soni in a Google+ post on Thursday, Oct. 17. "There is a long way to go, but it's a start..."
"Hope folks who are transitioning from an iOS device find it useful."
This functionality could prove to be just what some iOS users needed to make the jump from an iPhone to the Moto X, as until now they might have been reluctant because their data is stored in the iCloud.
Moreover, the fact that Puni said Motorola still has a long way to go suggests that the now-Google-owned company will not stop here. Motorola may have further plans to boost its appeal to iOS fans who may be tempted to try out something else.
The Moto X is not the highest-end smartphone, but it does have some neat features and functionality that are worth taking into account. Motorola went out of its way to make voice commands as seamless as possible, and Moto X users can easily operate their smartphone via voice commands even when it's asleep. The camera functionality is also quite interesting, as the Moto X allows users to start taking pictures instantly simply by twisting their wrist to access the smartphone's camera.
