Purported screenshots of the Google Play Store Android app version 4.4 have leaked online, detailing some of the upcoming features.
The new version of the Play Store may launch along with the official Android 4.4 KitKat release, but nothing is confirmed so far.
The newly-leaked screenshots come courtesy of an exclusive Android Police report, revealing a complete redesign of the Google Play Store app. According to the publication, the screenshots show a "work-in-progress" user interface (UI) from the next major update to the 4.4 version of the Play Store app for Android.
The images seem to fall in line with Google's efforts of constantly enhancing the Play Store experience for Android users. According to the screenshots, the company is attempting to facilitate navigation within the store's various sections through a "'hamburger'-style slide-out navigation," as Android Police calls it. This slide-out list includes:
Based on this, the menu should also come with only two options - Settings and Help. Android Police further points out that the Play Store app's UI will sport a more card-like design, featuring "UI transformations" that will be more "akin to the latest Gmail update."
The upcoming Google Play Store version 4.4 is expected to be compatible with devices running on Android 2.2 or newer and it is reportedly in testing on devices currently running Android 4.4.
"Play Store 4.4 should at the very minimum be released with KitKat, as it's already being tested on Android 4.4 devices (4.4 on 4.4, get it?)," Android Police notes. "Whether we'll see it pop earlier or not is, unfortunately, unknown to me at this point."
Keep in mind, however, that nothing is confirmed so far, which means that it all remains in the rumor state until Google makes an official announcement. These alleged screenshots are reportedly for a work-in-progress UI, meaning that things can change by the time Google actually releases the new Play Store app for Android. For the time being, it is advisable to take all things with a grain of salt.
