The new iPad Mini with Retina display went on sale through the Apple Store on Nov. 12 and now Verizon is also offering the LTE model of the slate.
Apple first announced its second-generation iPad Mini at a press event last month, but only gave a vague November launch date at the time. On Tuesday, Nov. 12, the company quietly launched the highly-anticipated iPad Mini with Retina display on its Apple Store, listing shipping times of up to three days for the 16GB and 32GB Wi-Fi models and up to ten days for the LTE and higher-capacity (64GB and 128GB) Wi-Fi versions.
The iPad Mini with Retina display starts at $399 for the 16GB Wi-Fi model on the Apple Store, while the cellular models start at $529.99. Verizon Wireless is now undercutting Apple's pricing, offering the LTE iPad Mini with Retina display for $100 less.
Verizon is offering the 16GB Wi-Fi + Cellular iPad Mini with Retina display for $429.99 on a two-year contract. For the month-to-month plan, Verizon offers the same pricing as the Apple store. The carrier offers the tablet in all storage configurations, i.e. 16GB, 32GB, 64GB, and 128GB.
According to Verizon's product page for the new iPad Mini with Retina display, the tablet will ship on Nov. 25. Considering that Apple's own store lists a shipment date of five to ten days for the cellular models of the tablet, Verizon's shipment date is pretty decent.
The original iPad Mini proved to be very popular among Apple fans who wanted a smaller tablet, but many were disappointed that the slate did not come with the company's iconic Retina display. The second-generation iPad Mini now comes with a high-resolution Retina display as expected, boasting a resolution of 2048 x 1536 pixels on a 7.9-inch screen. It also comes with high-end internals as opposed to its predecessor, as the new iPad Mini packs Apple's 64-bit A7 processor and M7 coprocessor, just like the iPad Air and the iPhone 5S.
The 4G LTE-enabled iPad Mini with Retina display from Verizon Wireless already seems to be in demand, as te carrier is currently listing the slate as available for backorder.
