Motorola will repeat its Cyber Monday Moto X sale this Wednesday, Dec. 4, and next Monday, Dec. 9, offering the Developer and Moto Maker editions of the smartphone for $349 off-contract.
The Moto X is not the highest-end smartphone out there, but it drew a wave of interest because it offers unprecedented and unparalleled customization options through Motorola's Moto Maker service.
Motorola announced last week that it would offer a huge discount on its off-contract Moto X for Cyber Monday, Dec. 2. However, the company failed to anticipate the great demand this promotion would create for the Moto X, which ultimately caused the company's website to crash.
As a large number of customers looking to take advantage of this special Moto X deal were not able to purchase the handset because Motorola's site crashed, the company felt compelled to issue an apology and repeat the promotion.
"I want to apologize to our customers and fans for the issues we experienced on our website with our Cyber Monday promotion," Motorola CEO Dennis Woodside explained in a company blog post on Monday, Dec. 2.
"First, we misjudged the overwhelming consumer demand for Moto X, which was far greater than we expected. Second, our pre-sale site testing was not sufficiently extensive. Testing failed to reveal weaknesses caused by large number of concurrent orders flowing through the MotoMaker customization engine. Thus, when we opened the promotion this morning, an extraordinary spike in concurrent orders caused our website to go down. We couldn't fulfill orders. The site became unstable. Customers were left frustrated."
To appease disgruntled customers and make up for the Cyber Monday fiasco, Motorola will relaunch its $349 Moto X promotion starting at 12 PM EST/ 9 AM PST this Wednesday, Dec. 4. The company will then repeat the promotion on Monday, Dec. 9.
"We will double the quantity of phones available, while supplies last, to allow as many people as possible to take advantage of the promotion. We're also extending the 30% off offer on accessories to these two days."
This promotion shaves $150 off the regular price of the off-contract Moto X, for both the Developer and the Moto Maker editions of the smartphone. If you're among those who missed out on this deal on Cyber Monday, you can try again on Dec. 4 and Dec. 9.
