Microsoft has pulled the software update it recently released for its Surface Pro 2 tablet after reports of various issues surfaced.
The Surface Pro 2 is Microsoft's second-generation tablet running the full-fledged version of the latest Windows. It sports notable improvements over the original Surface Pro and it was generally well-received, although it's still not among the most popular choices when it comes to tablets.
Microsoft recently rolled out a software update for its Surface Pro 2, but owners of the device soon started to complain about various issues caused by the update. In light of those reports, Microsoft has now pulled the update to patch things up. Some of the issues reported by Surface Pro 2 owners included battery problems, failed installations, and others.
The company has now released a brief statement saying that it is currently working on fixing those issues.
"To ensure the best experience for our customers during the holiday season, we have taken steps to remove the update for Surface Pro 2 that was previously published through Windows Update on December 10th, 2013," explained Microsoft on Thursday, Dec. 18. "We are working to release an alternative update package after the holidays."
In other words, Microsoft has no quick fix available at the moment to patch things up. The following update that should fix these reported issues will not roll out in time for the holidays, which means that Surface Pro 2 owners who are experiencing issues with their tablets will have to wait until January to get a new update.
As a reminder, the Microsoft Surface Pro 2 features a 10.6-inch full HD display that delivers roughly 50 percent more color accuracy than the one on the original tablet, according to Microsoft. In terms of processing power, the Surface Pro 2 packs an upgraded Intel Core i5 Haswell processor clocked at 1.6GHz. Connectivity options include one USB 3.0 port, a mini DisplatPort, Ethernet, and audio in/out.
The Surface Pro 2 was far more appreciated than the Surface 2, which runs the watered-down Windows RT. These reported issues, however, may affect Microsoft's holiday sales of the tablet.
