Motorola is now offering a free Google Chromecast dongle with the purchase of a Moto X off-contract, whcih costs $399.99.
Just recently the company decided to permanently drop the price of its off-contract Moto X to $399.99, and now Motorola is apparently looking to sweeten the deal even further. The new deal will only be available for a limited time and will work with a promotional code.
"Catch up on hit shows and movies with a no-contract Moto X and Google Chromecast for just $39.99 (16GB) or $449.99 (32GB)," touts a promotional email we received from Motorola. "Just add Google Chromecast to your cart by 11:59pm ET 1/14/14 and use promo code STREAM."
Google's Chromecast streaming tongle has proved to be widely popular, mainly due to its very affordable price tag. The gadget normally retails for $35, but if you had your heart set on the Moto X, you can now get the Chromecast for free when purchasing the smartphone.
Motorola has been running several promotions recently to attract more buyers and boost sales of its flagship Moto X, which may suggest that the handset isn't doing all that well. The Moto X created a lot of hype upon its launch due to the high customization options it offered, allowing users to design their own device, but the hefty price tag it sported at launch put off many prospective buyers.
Aside from the unprecedented customization options, the Moto X comes with mid-range specs that didn't exactly justify the high initial price tag. The smartphone was priced at the same level as high-end flagships such as the Samsung Galaxy S4, which offers far better hardware and performance.
As a reminder, the Motorola Moto X sports a 4.7-inch HD AMOLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 pixels. Under the hood, the smartphone packs a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro processor clocked at 1.7GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM and Adreno 320 graphics.
Other specs include a 10-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front-facing shooter, and a 2,200 mAh battery that will last for up to 24 hours of mixed usage. The Moto X is also expected to make its debut in Europe soon, as Motorola has a press conference set for next week in London.
If you're interested in the off-contract Moto X and would like to get a free Google Chromecast with your purchase, head over to Motorola's Moto Maker website, design your smartphone, place your order and enter the promo code STREAM. Remember that this offer expires in just a few days, on Jan. 14.
