Sprint has officially announced that it will start selling the LG G Flex curved-display smartphone on Jan. 31 for $299.99 on-contract.
The LG G Flex is an impressive smartphone with high-end specs and features, and it's the world's first flexible-display smartphone to become available in the U.S. Sprint has now confirmed that it will be the first U.S. carrier to start selling the G Flex.
"Continuing to raise the bar in innovation, we are thrilled to once again team up with LG to bring a top-of-the-line device to our customers," David Owens, vice president of product at Sprint, boasted in the press release. "LG G Flex combines everything in a single device and promises Sprint customers curved ergonomic comfort and a cinematic viewing experience that will make movie buffs rejoice. With the multitude of Android apps available for download, LG G Flex with Sprint Spark, combined with Sprint's new Sprint Framily Plan, make an ideal pair for today's multimedia, multitasking lifestyles."
The LG G Flex sports a 6-inch curved P-OLED display with a resolution of 1280 x 720 and a pixel density of 245 pixels per inch (ppi). Under the hood, the smartphone houses the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 quad-core processor clocked at 2.26GHz, coupled with Adreno 330 graphics and 2GB of RAM.
Other specs include 32GB of internal storage capacity (no microSD card slot for additional memory), a 13-megapixel rear camera with auto focus, LED flash, and full HD video recording capabilities (1080p), as well as a 2.1-megapixel front-facing shooter. Wireless connectivity options include 4G LTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac, Bluetooth 4.0 LE, GPS, and NFC. The handset's enhanced LTE radio will allow users to take full advantage of Sprint's high-speed Spark network, which can go up to 40Mbps. A large, non-removable 3,500 mAh battery will provide up to 29 hours of talk time. On the software side, the LG G Flex runs Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean, but an update to a newer version of Android is expected to roll out soon.
The LG G Flex also comes with a very neat feature, which will likely set a new trend. The smartphone boasts a self-healing back plate, which automatically fills in small marks and scratches from daily use.
Sprint will start selling the LG G Flex online starting on Jan. 31 for a hefty $299.99 on a new two-year contract. Retail stores, meanwhile, will get the smartphone on Feb. 7. The Sprint LG G Flex is already available for pre-order and customers who place their order between Jan. 16 and 31 will also get a free QuickWindow Folio case, which normally costs $59.99.
