The Samsung Galaxy S5 has leaked extensively as of late, and new information now claims that will debut on Feb. 23 in Barcelona.
Rumors and leaks about the next-generation flagship smartphone from Samsung have apparently reached a daily basis. The rumor mill is churning at full speed in anticipation of the big unveiling and new bits of information are constantly surfacing.
Just the other day we heard news that the Galaxy S5 would not boast an iris scanner as previously rumored, because the technology is not mature enough for deployment. Instead, the smartphone will reportedly come with a fingerprint scanner, joining the ranks of Apple and HTC, whose iPhone 5S and One Max, respectively, already sport such technology. A new user interface has also leaked for the Galaxy S5, appearing as an interesting mixture of Google Now and Windows tiles.
Now, Russian journalist Eldar Murtazin claims that Samsung will unveil its highly-anticipated Galaxy S5 in a little over a month, on Feb. 23, in Barcelona. If this name sounds familiar, it may be because Murtazin accurately predicted the launch date of the Samsung Galaxy S4 last year. The accuracy of his Galaxy S4 prediction last year is by no means a guarantee that Murtazin is correct now as well, but does add some weight to his claim.
In a tweet late on Monday, Jan. 20, the journalist said that Samsung will announce its next-generation Galaxy S5 at a press event just one day before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) kicks off in Barcelona. The smartphone will reportedly become available in April, retailing for the same price.
Murtazin further mentioned that the specs are already known. Based on leaks so far, the Samsung Galaxy S5 is expected to sport a 5.25-inch display with a whopping 2k resolution, a hefty 3GB or 4GB of RAM, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 or Samsung Exynos 6 processor (based on whether the model is LTE or not), a 16- or 20-megapixel rear camera, the aforementioned fingerprint scanner, and Android 4.4 KitKat with a new TouchWiz UI.
With nothing official from Samsung, however, it is always best to take all such rumors, leaks and speculation with a healthy dose of skepticism.
