ASUS unveiled its VivoTab Note 8 back at CES 2014 and the tablet has now gone on sale on the Microsoft Store, sporting a $329 price tag for 32GB.
The new ASUS VivoTab Note 8 stirred plenty of interest back at CES, as it comes as an 8-inch tablet running Windows 8.1 and boasting Wacom tablet digitizer technology.
In addition to the Professional Wacom Digitizer Stylus, the ASUS VivoTab Note 8 has an 8-inch IPS display with 1280 x 800 resolution, a quad-core Intel Atom Z3740 "Bay Trail" processor clocked at 1.33 GHz, and 2GB of LPDDR3 RAM. The tablet also has microSD card support for up to 64GB of additional memory, a 5-megapixel rear camera, and an HD front camera. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n and Bluetooth 4.0, and a 15.5Whr battery will provide up to eight hours of use on a single charge.
The ASUS VivoTab Note 8 delivers up to 1,000 levels of pressure with its Wacom digitizer support, which should provide great stylus performance. As previously mentioned, the tablet runs Windows 8.1 and comes with several goodies pre-loaded, including Student software, Microsoft Office Home (complete with PowerPoint, Excel, Microsoft Word, and OneNote), and SonicMaster audio technology.
Upon announcing the tablet, ASUS boasted that its VivoTab Note 8 is "the best pen-based tablet for productivity or creativity," suitable for both students and working professionals. The slate was expected to cost $299 when it hit retail, but the Microsoft Store now shows a $329 price tag for the 32GB model.
"Hands-on or with the included Wagon digital stylus, the ASUS VivoTab Note 8 gives you flexible options for work and play," reads the product description on the Microsoft Store. "It's incredibly slim and light, making it easy to hold and carry in one hand - perfect for jotting notes in a meeting or doing some reading on the bus. Plus, it has plenty of storage and power for all your apps and files with a 32GB solid state drive and 2GB of memory."
All signs seem to indicate that the ASUS VivoTab Note 8 is off to a strong start, as the tablet already appears as "out of stock" on the Microsoft Store. Nonetheless, the good news is that it hit commercial availability, and new stock will likely arrive shortly to meet demand.
