HTC One Mini 2 leak shows three color options, no depth-sensing Duo Camera
Alexandra BurlacuThe much-rumored HTC One Mini 2 has leaked again in some press renders that look quite legitimate, showing three color options, but no depth-sensing Duo Camera.
The phone maker has recently launched the HTC One M8 powerhouse as its flagship smartphone for 2014, and it is widely expected to introduce at least one spinoff in the near future. Last year, for instance, HTC launched its flagship HTC One, then released both smaller and larger versions as the HTC One Mini and HTC One Max, respectively.
While no information is currently available regarding an HTC One M8 Max, the smaller version is expected to make its debut soon and it will reportedly launch as the HTC One Mini 2, not the One M8 Mini. Well-known and trusted tipster @evleaks, who has provided accurate leaks countless times in the past, has now posted an image allegedly showing the upcoming HTC One Mini 2.
The image looks quite legitimate and shows a beautiful design that is very similar to that of the flagship HTC One M8, as expected. Based on the photo, it seems that the smaller version of the flagship will come in three color options - gray, silver, and gold - and may not feature the company's UltraPixel camera.
HTC would supposedly pair its UltraPixel camera with a second shooter for depth of information, but this image shows the HTC One Mini 2 lacks the One M8's depth-sensing Duo Camera. As shown in the leaked render here, the rear of the smartphone has a single camera, which seemingly bolsters previous rumors that the HTC One Mini 2 would ditch the 4-megapixel UltraPixel camera for a 13-megapixel shooter. In other words, instead of using its UltraPixel technology for the One Mini 2 as well, HTC could be packing the same 13-megapixel camera found on the Desire 816 smartphone.
The latest leak doesn't mention any specs for the purported HTC One Mini 2, but previous reports suggested that the smartphone will sport a 4.5-inch display with 720p resolution, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, a microSD card slot for additional memory, and Android 4.4 KitKat with HTC Sense 6 UI on board.
These rumored specs place the purported HTC One Mini 2 along the same lines as the HTC Desire 816, but with one big difference in terms of build material. While the Desire 816 comes with a plastic build, the HTC One Mini 2 is expected to boast the same premium finish as the flagship HTC One M8.
Despite @evleaks' great track record when it comes to leaking unannounced devices, however, it's always best to take everything with a grain of salt until official confirmation. HTC has yet to announce a One Mini 2 or One M8 Mini, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we hear more about his purported smartphone.
