HTC One (E8) for ‘fashion-conscious’ now official: More affordable without compromising specs
Alexandra BurlacuHTC is expanding its popular One family with the addition of the new HTC One (E8), which comes as the plastic version of the current One (M8) flagship.
The HTC One (E8) has made headlines on several occasions recently, rumored to launch as a more affordable version of the high-end HTC One (M8), sporting a cheaper polycarbonate (plastic) body instead of the more premium metal finish of the flagship. Those rumors turned out to be true, and the company has now officially taken the wraps off the new HTC One (E8).
"Built for the fashion-conscious, the HTC One (E8) features a design aesthetic that redefines functional style. Its dual curve, ergonomic shape naturally fits in the hand no matter how it's held," reads the press release on Tuesday, June 3.
"The HTC One (M8) sets a new smartphone standard and now we're taking it in another exciting direction," adds HTC CEO Peter Chou. "Combining style and substance, the HTC One (E8) represents the incredible experience people expect from an HTC One device with a look and feel that's unlike anything else out there today. If you're looking for the best flagship smartphone experience, but want to stand out from the crowd, this is the phone for you."
HTC One (E8) Specs
In terms of specifications, the HTC One (E8) sports a 5-inch full HD, borderless display, a powerful quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor, and 2GB of RAM. The company has yet to reveal the processor's clock speed. Other specs include 16GB of internal storage capacity, as well as a microSD card slot that allows for additional memory of up to 128GB.
The smartphone further features a 13-megapixel rear camera (as opposed to the HTC One (M8)'s UltraPixel camera), and a 5-megapixel front shooter, with both cameras able to capture full HD video.
On the software side, the new HTC One (E8) runs Android 4.4 KitKat out of the box, with the company's own Sense 6 user interface (UI) on top. The smartphone also supports "Motion Launch" gestures, the popular experience introduced with the flagship One (M8). A 2,600 mAh battery will keep things up and running, while dual stereo BoomSound speakers will provide a superior audio experience.
The HTC One (E8) will be available in four colors: Polar White, Electric Crimson, Maldives Blue, and Misty Grey. The phone will launch later this month in several markets, but HTC has yet to offer exact pricing and availability details.
