BlackBerry Porsche Design P’9983 premium QWERTY smartphone officially unveiled (VIDEO)
Alexandra BurlacuBlackBerry has officially launched its new Porsche Design P'9983 QWERTY smartphone, made in collaboration with the Porsche Design luxury brand.
Unveiled at a special event in Dubai, the new BlackBerry Porsche P'9983 luxury smartphone will be available starting in October from Porsche Design stores, as well as select carriers and retailers. The company released no pricing details at this point, but it's safe to assume that this handset will not come cheap.
The Porsche Design P'9983 is the third smartphone BlackBerry launches in collaboration with Porsche Design, following the BlackBerry Porsche P'9981 and the Porsche Design P'9982.
The new smartphone boasts a premium build with a chassis and floating logo made of forged stainless steel, a special glass-weave technology for its rear, as well as a sapphire glass camera lens.
"The Porsche Design P'9983 smartphone from BlackBerry makes a statement about its owner's impeccable taste and drive for achievement and success, as well as discernment in making the right choices with products that help them stay on top," Juergen Gessler, CEO of the Porsche Design Group, said in the press release on Wednesday, Sept. 17. "Yet again, the collaboration with BlackBerry has led to a product that blends style and functionality to provide a true luxury experience."
"Today we mark yet another milestone in delivering an experience that goes beyond luxury," added Ron Louks, President of Devices and Emerging Solutions at BlackBerry. "The first QWERTY Porsche Design smartphone with BlackBerry 10 experience combines superior productivity, ultimate security and privacy and the performance of the best professional tool with the opportunity to express individual style with the luxury of being one step ahead."
Aside from its exquisite design, the new smartphone also comes with a neat new feature called a Unique PIN. More specifically, BlackBerry will deliver an exclusive Porsche Design PIN range to every customer, which will make the user immediately recognizable from other Porsche Design users.
On the software side, meanwhile, the new Porsche Design P'9983 comes with all of the BlackBerry 10 OS goodies, including BlackBerry Hub and BlackBerry World. The fact that it runs BlackBerry 10.3 also means that it comes with access to Amazon's Appstore for Android, which brings a slew of apps to the table.
In terms of specifications, the new BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9983 features a 3.1-inch HD touch screen, a dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 2GB of RAM, 64GB of internal storage capacity, microSD support for additional memory of up to 128GB, an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 2-megapixel front shooter, and a 2,100 mAh battery. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, 4G LTE, FM radio, microUSB, and microHDMI.
The luxury smartphone will also get some aftermarket accessories such as handcrafted Italian leather backdoors, which will be available in Yellow, Blue Green, Dark Brown, Pomegranate, Paloma Grey, Salsa, Orange, and Blue.
As previously mentioned, the new BlackBerry Porsche Design P'9983 will hit commercial availability next month, and pricing details will become available closer to launch. In the meantime, check out the video below to see the smartphone's unboxing.
