T-Mobile HTC One M8 getting Android 5.0 Lollipop on Monday, Feb. 9
Alexandra BurlacuHTC One M8 users on T-Mobile in the U.S. are in for some great news, as Android 5.0 Lollipop will start rolling out on Monday, Feb. 9.
The latest major version of Android has only reached 1.6 percent of Android devices so far, but a wider rollout is nonetheless expected shortly. In the U.S., things have just started to heat up for carrier versions of high-end devices, as carriers begin to roll out Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Verizon and Sprint have already started to roll out the update to their versions of the Samsung Galaxy S5, and Sprint also updated its HTC One M7. On Friday, Feb. 6, Sprint's support page also showed the HTC One M8 as ready to receive Lollipop, but that was apparently a bit premature. The support page no longer shows the update to Android 5.0 Lollipop (the last update listed is from Oct. 29), and HTC's own Android update tracking website says the Sprint One M8 is still in Stage 3 - Certification for now. A leaked document claimed that Sprint would update its One M8 on Feb. 13, but that's not confirmed at this point.
Nevertheless, one carrier version of the HTC One M8 is officially set to get Android 5.0 Lollipop very soon, as T-Mobile will start rolling out the update on Monday, Feb. 9.
HTC's vice president of product management announced the news on Twitter, as usual. The update will roll out over the air (OTA), bringing all of the neat treats Lollipop has to offer.
"HTC One (M8) T-Mobile owners! Lollipop OS Technical Approval has been received! OTA to start on Monday," HTC's Mo Versi touted on Friday, Feb. 6.
It remains unclear at this point just when exactly other carrier versions of the HTC One M8 will officially start getting a taste of Lollipop, but it shouldn't be too long now. It seems that T-Mobile One M8 owners will be among the first, if not the first to get it, but other carriers should follow suit shortly. As always with OTA updates, keep in mind that the rollout is gradual and it may take a while to reach all devices.
