Verizon HTC One M7 finally getting Android 5.0 Lollipop
Alexandra BurlacuThe long-awaited Android 5.0 Lollipop update should finally start rolling out to the HTC One M7 on Verizon Wireless on Thursday, May 14.
The original HTC One, i.e. the HTC One M7, is no longer the company's latest flagship for a good while now, but it's still a good smartphones with plenty of fans worldwide. The handset was widely considered one of the best Android smartphones on the market when it came out, and even today many still rely on the One M7 although HTC has released two other flagships in the meantime (the One M8 in 2014 and the One M9 in 2015).
One of the sore spots for HTC One M7 owners on Verizon Wireless, however, was the lack of Android Lollipop. AT&T, Sprint, and T-Mobile have all updated their HTC One M7 versions to the last major version of Android, but Verizon was late to the party as usual.
Delayed updates from Verizon are no longer a big surprise to anyone, as the carrier is notorious for delivering updates later than others. Nevertheless, it's good to know that the Verizon HTC One M7 is finally receiving the highly-anticipated update to Android 5.0 Lollipop.
HTC's Mo Versi announced a couple of days ago that the One M7 received technical approval for Lollipop on Verizon, and the update should start rolling out today.
"Verizon HTC One (M7) Owners! Thank you for your amazing patience. We've received TA on L OS, OTA starting on Thursday," the executive announced.
Android 5.0 Lollipop comes as a big update compared to the previous versions, bringing a slew of neat fixes, improvements and new features to enhance the overall experience. The update will bring along improved notifications, a redesigned recent panel apps, Material Design elements, and other visual tweaks, in addition to enhancements in terms of security, battery performance, and more.
As previously mentioned, the Android 5.0 Lollipop is set to start rolling out for the Verizon HTC One M7 on Thursday, May 14, but keep in mind that the process is gradual. Updates always roll out in stages, which means that it may take a few days for all units to get the treat. Nevertheless, the update is finally on its way and should arrive momentarily.
