ProGaming League Acquired League of Legends Android App and DK Squad
Staff ReportereSports organization ProGaming League had added DK Squad and League of Legends Android app in their roster of premiere video game tournaments.
DK Squad is the developer of the Android app for League of Legends. With this acquisition, DK will be continuing their success with this app under the PGL (ProGaming League) platform, according to PRNewsWire.
The LoL app has already been downloaded more than 3 million times and it has 360,000 active users in Google Play. The LoL app can be used by gamers to search for different champions and create strategies in the game play.
League of Legends is one of the largest MOBA (multiplayer online battle arena). It was developed by Riot Games for the Windows and Mac OS X platforms. Closely compared to DOTA, LoL is a battle game where users can assume the role of "champion." He would then need to use different abilities to face the opposing team. The main goal to win the game is to destroy the other team's "nexus" which is located at the heart of each team's base.
It was released in 2012 but it has already gained over 67 million players online. There are about 27 million users per day and about 7.5 million gamers playing during peak hours.
League of Legends has already launched its first League of Legends Championship Series in 2013 where 10 professional teams battle for a $1 million grand prize. Gamers from all over Taiwan, South Korea, China and even Southeast Asia were able to compete.
In 2014, League of Legends hosted its biggest grand tournament yet, offering a $2.3 million prize pool. This event was considered to be the fifth biggest grand prize in the history of eSports.
With LoL's wide audience, PGL President Chad Larsson said the acquisition will strengthen their user base.
"With DK Squad we have acquired the assets to strengthen our community and our mobile presence with the most downloaded Android app for League of Legends players. We look forward to building out the app in iOS and expect to increase our mobile user base substantially," he said.
