'Attack on Titan' Game Exudes A 'Dynasty Warrior' Feel in This 22-Minute Gameplay Demo
Jazz RosinThe folks at Koei Tecmo are giving the critically acclaimed manga and anime "Attack on Titan" a "Dynasty Warrior"-esque game adaptation.
Omega Force, the developer responsible for the beat-em-up game "Dynasty Warriors," will help with creating the "Attack on Titan" game, according to Polygon. Compared to "Dynasty Warriors" hordes of enemy mobs, the battle gameplay on "Attack on Titan" will pit our heroes against the abominable titans.
The game mechanics are pretty much straightforward. Just like in the "Attack on Titan" manga and anime, the city walls are breached by the titans, and it is up to the Survey Corps to stop them from eating up everyone in the city.
The player would need to eliminate the titans, using the iconic Three Dimensional Maneuvering Gear to swing around to get to the titans' weak spot: the nape.
Based on the 22-minute gameplay posted by Polygon, the controls look like it may take a couple of minutes to get used to. The gameplay features Mikasa Ackermann, one of the most skillful member of the Survey Corps. The sloppy gameplay did not do her character justice, however.
Players who are familiar with Koei Tecmo's "Dynasty Warriors" will feel right at home with the in-game dialogues popping up, although this may seem distracting for some. The map on the upper right corner is also reminiscent of "Dynasty Warriors."
The cutscenes are beautifully rendered in cel-shaded graphics, and was able to capture the story of "Attack on Titan," also known as "Shingeki no Kyojin" in Japan.
Nerdist pointed out that while it is fun to finally be able to kill titans in the game, the task might get a tad repetitive for some.
The game's story will follow the first season of the anime, but will also feature all-new original content, according to Nerdist. The new content will not be treated as canon, however, the anime creator has approved the use of new content in the game.
The game will also allow the players to play as a titan, in which button mashing mayhem ensues.
"Attack on Titan" will be launched on PS4 and Xbox One on August 30.
