[UPDATE] 'Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy': A Great Primer For 'Final Fantasy XV'; How The Movie Ties Up Perfectly With The Game
Jazz RosinSquare Enix's CG movie "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy" has opened in Japan this weekend with generally positive reviews, giving fans a great primer into the "Final Fantasy XV" universe.
The story perfectly ties up with the game, with some loose ends explained in the game that will not be fully explained in the game itself.
There will be a few spoilers as we move along so please be warned.
"Kingsglaive" is part of the "Fabula Nova Crysallis" series and shares the same universe as the other "Final Fantasy" titles like "Final Fantasy XIII" and "Final Fantasy Type-0." The story focuses on King Regis Lucis Caelum CXIII, which is the father of Noctis, the main character of "Final Fantasy XV."
The Kingsglaive is a group of elite guards with the same amount of power as Regis. They are the main defenders of the kingdom of Lucis and defends it from the Niflheim Empire.
Faced with a heavy decision, and with the kingdom losing faith in the government, Regis signed a peace treaty with the Niflheim empire. As part of the treaty, Noctis must marry Lady Lunafreya Nox Fleuret of the Imperial province of Tenebrae.
However, there are traitors within Kingsglaive itself, and this led to King Regis' death in the hands of Kingsglaive commander Drautos, who is actually the general of Niflheim's Magitek Infantry, Glauca.
The death of Regis caused the Sword-sworn to lose all their powers, rendering them mortals.
The movie ends with Luna taking the ring, after a few more deaths among the Kingsglaive, and escapes Insomnia to meet up with Noctis. This is where the movie ends and the game begins.
Mognet Central forum user Rin vouched for the validity of this spoilers and said that "once you watch Kingsglaive, you will never view the opening CG scene in XV the same way ever again."
The whole spoiler notes are found here. A more detailed explanation is on NeoGaf.
With that said, "Kingsglaive: Final Fantasy" will be getting a limited US theatrical release on August 9.
