'Battlefield 1': Hacker Group Threatens To Disrupt Game Servers At Launch
J RoseThe launch date of Electronic Arts' World War I- themed shooter "Battlefield 1" draws near, and hackers have vowed to disrupt the game's servers on the first day of release.
According to PVP Live, hacker group PoodleCorp has declared war on Electronic Arts by announcing that they will be "putting 'Battlefield' in the oven" on Oct. 21. The threat was recently posted on their Twitter account.
PoodleCorp has been taking credit for a number of distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attacks on various game companies. The hacker collective was said to be made up of seven people, with some former members of the Lizard Squad, the group responsible for shutting down PSN and Xbox Live during the Holiday season in 2014, according to Tech Mic.
Recently, Tech Times reported a DdoS attack on Battle.net over the weekend, all because of PoodleCorp. The hackers said that they will stop the attack if their Twitter post is retweeted 2,000 times.
This was not the first time that Blizzard had fallen victim to DdoS attacks, as PoodleCorp launched the same attack on their servers twice last month, causing high latency and disconnection issues across all of its games, including "Overwatch."
PoodleCorp has also launched an attack on Niantic Labs' servers during "Pokémon GO"'s first month, causing major outage on the game's server, International Business Times reported.
We have reported previously that Electronic Arts has suffered from server issues during "Battlefield 1" open beta. Gamespot reported that a hacking group is behind the issue, and again, PoodleCorp took responsibility for the attack.
"We are responsible forthe downtime of EA and 'Battlefield'," PoodleCorp wrote on their Twitter page. "EA servers were toasted real good tonight."
Despite the disruption, "Battlefield 1" beta managed to attract over 13 million players, making it the biggest EA beta of all time, and beating the figures of Blizzard's "Overwatch" and Ubisoft's "The Division."
"Battlefield 1" will be launched on PS4, Xbox One and PC on Oct.21.
