Samsung made its Gear 3 official at IFA 2016 and it comes in two versions, Frontier and Classic having the latest technology which is commonly found on the new generation of smartphones, including IP68 water resistance, mobile payments, LTE connectivity and built-in GPS.
According to Younghee Lee, executive vice president of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics, as reported by Samsung Newsroom, the newest device is a significant addition to the company's wearable collection.
"Samsung Gear S2 achieved meaningful progress in the smartwatch category with a personalized watch face and a versatile rotating bezel that provided an intuitive smartwatch experience. Now with the new Gear S3, we expand our Gear collection and introduce not only a great smartwatch, but a great watch, " he said. "With smart capabilities and sophisticated, elegant design, the Gear S3 marks a significant addition to our smartwatch portfolio."
The Samsung Gear 3 still runs on Tizen OS and is larger with a height of 49mm (1.93 inches) and width of 46mm.
The Gear S3 Frontier is said to be available in color black only with rubber bands which are sportier having a 3G/LTE connectivity option.
On the other hand, the Gear 3 Classic is available in leather bands that look more polished, also featuring Wi-Fi/Bluetooth.
According to Samsung, Gear S3 is easy to use and it takes days before you need a recharge. It's truly best especially when you go on a long trip; however, it still depends on your usage and settings. Moreover, just by turning the bezel, one can respond to calls and read messages without the need of a phone.
Interestingly, just like a phone, the new wearable is able to check the distance you take or to track progress in daily runs, of course, with the help of GPS.
Meanwhile, there were rumors that it may be sold with a price tag of $449 in Europe.
The company has not yet given any official announcement regarding the price and release date for the new Samsung Gear S3, some reports say that it will be available in October, but other reports suggest that the latest wearable is likely to hit the market in November.
