Apple's laptop line up is one of the best in the industry. With no MacBook Air refresh announced, the current Air and the 13-inch MacBook Pro 2016 now offer competing low-cost options. Here is a comparison between the two.

Coming to physical design, the MacBook Air is smaller and less dense than the new MacBook Pro. From a portability perspective, the Air holds the edge here.

Looking at the display, with Retina feature as well as better screen resolution, the Pro 2016 is a better choice.

The MacBook Air is powered by 5th generation Intel Core i5/i7, whereas the latest Pros are powered by 6th generation Intel Core i3/i5/i7, as per Digital Trends. Without a doubt, the MacBook Pros, thus have a stronger fire power.

When we look at the storage capacities, the MacBook Pros have the 1TB storage variant which is not available for the MacBook Airs. The latest Apple laptops also make use of Bluetooth 4.2 feature compared to the Bluetooth 4.0 available in older models.

Apple's MacBook Air still offers the old USB-A ports and a single Thunder bolt 2 ports. When it comes to the latest MacBook Pros, it is packed with 2 USB-C type ports with the Thunderbolt 3. With the future in mind, the MacBook Pro notebook is the better option to go with.

The Laptop Mag reports of a slightly better battery life for the MacBook Airs compared to the new MacBook Pros.

Compared to the MacBook Air's standard mechanical multi-touch trackpad, the MacBook Pro 2016 has received an even larger version of the Force Touch trackpad technology. The new MacBook Pro 2016 can provide the same mechanical feel on keyboards as in the case with MacBook Air however with more improvised key travel.

Definitely, the MacBooks have their unique strengths. The MacBook Air has a slight advantage when it comes to portability and battery life. However, when it comes to all other features, the MacBook Pro 2016 wins it by a good margin. With rumors circulating of MacBook Air phasing out soon, the latest MacBook Pro is definitely the best choice here.
