Dark Souls - the follow up to the critically acclaimed Demon Souls - is getting a PC port, dubbed "Prepare to Die." Its director, Hidetaka Miyazaki, has revealed details on the version.

The port was announced on Friday, May 24, and will bring a new chapter along with a "refined" PvP mode for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The frame rate will be locked, and keyboard support will be limited.

"It's completely understandable that people who bought the console version have those questions. However, as the director of Dark Souls I cannot answer your question right now. I want to apologise to console owners that I don't have any news at this point", Miyazaki said to The Guardian on whether console owners will get the extra content created for the PC as DLC.

According to the English newspaper, there are rumors the Prepare to Die Edition will launch on consoles. With E3 a week away, it's not long before such an announcement would be made.

There was also the question of whether the version would use Games for Windows Live, or other digital distribution services such as Steam. Despite box art showing the Games for Windows Live logo, Namco's publishing producer for Dark Souls said the final decision has not been made and "partnerships were ongoing."

The new chapter will have three-four new bosses, the same number of new areas and a new storyline. "There will also be more NPCs and more enemies. And the equipment of those characters will be available for the player to wear," Miyazaki added. He added changes to the PC version won't be drastic, as it wouldn't resemble the original game.

The new areas were confirmed to have been designed post-console release. "It's 99% new content," Miyazaki also said.

Mods are not in the PC port due to studio's lack of PC experience, despite Miyazaki being interested in user creation. As mentioned, mouse and keyboard support is limited because the game was designed for a controller. Keyboard support will be "minimal."

The Prepare to Die Edition releases on August 24 for PC. Namco Bandai has also announced the Prepare to Die Edition and the Artoria of the Abyss expansion will come to consoles this winter, costing 1,200 Microsoft Points for US$14.99 on Xbox Live and PSN respectively.
