The talks about a new HTC Vive Headset are apparently not true. The company behind the hit VR headset has reiterated in a recent statement that a second generation of the HTC Vive or the HTC Vive 2 will not have an appearance for the upcoming CES 2017.

Speculations about a new Vive 2 headset has been circulating around the web due to a recent report from a Chinese News Agency. Digitimes wrote about HTC's plans to unveil a second generation Vive that has a wireless transmitter and two 4k displays.

The news quickly spread all over and it's supposed launch was even blamed for the recent price drop on the original Vive in China. HTC has shot down the rumors in a recent statement given to UploadVR.

In the statement, HTC told the website that "There is no truth to the rumor." The company has also reiterated that they are focused on "building a strong and growing ecosystem" for the owners for the VR headset.

The announcement gave HTC Vive owners relief as many were worried that a new Vive 2 will outdate their current VR headsets. The recent sale was not an indication of a new headset coming from the company. Conversely, it was HTC's prerogative to encourage buyers to invest in the VR experience.

HTC's Vive has dominated the market for VR headsets from April through November 2016. However, an article from Forbes details a possibility of HTC's VR headset losing to Sony's virtual gear and the Oculus Rift.

According to the article, HTC will suffer sales in 2017 because of supply shortages on AMOLED display panels. Although the Vive headset took a huge market lead of 61.4 percent in 2016, 2017 will be a different story because the company is having trouble with sourcing the AMOLED panels.

Other companies will also try to enter the VR market and HTC will suffer possible shortages. In TrendForce's forecast, HTC will ship out at least 600,000 Vive units in 2017. That number will be tremendously dwarfed by Sony PlayStation VR's 2.5 million shipments and Oculus Rift's 1.2 million units. Other brands are also seen to ship an estimate of 800,000 units.
