TCL Competes Against iPhone & Samsung with Smartphone Using BlackBerry Tech, Physical Keyboard
Regin OlimberioBlackBerry may have shied away from continuing their keyboard-studded smartphones but a China-based company TCL plans to take away the idea after acquiring its rights. TCL Communications will manufacture smartphones with BlackBerry brand, incorporating its security and software installed.
It seems that TCL is fast tracking everything that is BlackBerry and preview was released last week. According to TCL, this BlackBerry inspired units are still in final stages of development. The only sure thing for now is the physical keyboard that propelled BlackBerry's unique setup. Consider this TCL move as throwback to what BlackBerry made in combining keyboard with Android operating system, GreenBot said.
Here is a bit of catch that TCL will face in revamping BlackBerry into the market: there is a fierce competition nowadays and physical keyboard is something that is gradually losing grip. BlackBerry reason that there is a collapse in their market share which in turn pushed them to license their phone.
At any rate, TCL general manager for North America Steve Cistulli is confident that reemerging what BlackBerry started still has some kick to challenge even iPhone and Samsung. TCL is especially offering these BlackBerry-inspired units to enterprise costumers, the same market that BlackBerry captured in 2000.
TCL is also planning to supply US and Canadian governments, plus the "traditional" followers from banking and medical sectors. BlackBerry was once on top of these markets due to stricter regulations and demand for reliable keyboard.
For those who want to know more about this upcoming TCL - BlackBerry smartphones, Cistulli promised to unveil during the Mobile World Congress. The event is taking place in March at Barcelona, coinciding with the assumption of new US administration.
Meanwhile, TCL clears out that BlackBerry is still going to provide the security software for this new breed of phone. This confirms what BlackBerry announced earlier that they will only stop manufacturing phones but will strengthen their grip towards software development.
