Microsoft Surface Pro 5 Leaks Reveal Top Specs; 3D & 4K Support Along With Kaby Lake Chipset Widely Awaited
Ritwik RoyMicrosoft Surface Pro 5 is a highly-anticipated device and many are waiting for an official announcement from Microsoft. The device may not be released until spring of 2017. According to the Chinese-language Economic Daily Report, Microsoft could be planning to launch its updated Surface Pro 5 in March 2017 and the hybrid two-in-one tablet may have an optional keyboard cover.
According to IT Wire, supply chain and parts manufacturer leaks have revealed that the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be powered by an Intel 7th generation Kaby Lake low energy processors. It will come in three models, namely, Core m (dual-core), Core i5 (dual-core, two threads) and Core i7 (quad-core, eight threads). These highly-advanced processors have higher turbo frequencies, faster clock speeds and better battery life.
The Intel chips also come with native support for 3D and 4K at 60fps. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will have a 12.3-inch 4K resolution screen. An IPS Touch is more likely than a Super AMOLED screen. The resolution could be 4320 x 2160 pixels. The device will also come with USB-C, 3.1 with Thunderbolt. The leaks have also hinted at DDR4 RAM variants, starting at 16GB and going up to 32GB.
There will be 512GB to 1TB SSD along with SD card support. The Microsoft Surface Pro 5 will be shipped with Windows 10 Redmond 3 update. A standard fingerprint reader could be incorporated on the optional keyboard though rumors are rife about a larger glass trackpad with wider key spacing. The device may have a starting price of $899. However, the Kaby Lake refresh may not hit the market in the first half of 2017.
This is because Microsoft has recently announced a new power base for its popular Surface Book. According to Neurogadget, the Microsoft Surface Pro 5 may feature a Surface stylus with magnetic charging capabilities.
