Google Offering Tango-enabled Phone To The Museum Visitors To Explore Exhibits In Augmented Reality
Gloven RamosGoogle now is making different thing to promote their new Tango AR technology. And for all those love museums and its exhibits, this company's offer lets you experience a museum in a different way.
The company is now offering Google Tango-enabled smartphone to every museum visitor to explore exhibits in Augmented Reality or AR. They started with the Detroit Institute of Arts before moving on to other institutions and museums.
Google Tango is an Augmented Reality using computer vision to enable smartphone and tablet to detect their position relative to the world around them without using GPS or other external signals. The first and currently the only Tango-enabled smartphone is the Lenovo Phab 2 Pro.
In the Detroit Institute of Arts, the visitors can request Google Tango enabled phones from the front desk. You can use the device to find out more about various artifacts and anything in the exhibits.
According to the Verge, using the Google Tango handset, visitors can peek inside sarcophagi to reveal mummified bodies, restore ancient limestone reliefs to their original bright coloring and visualize lost architecture like the six-story Babylonian Ishtar Gate. Aside from visualizations, the app on the device will also offer quizzes and games.
The company is partnering with various museums and promises more partnership around the world. It is very cool to see old artifacts and discover more that our naked eye cannot see using Google Tango.
Soon, the Google Tango or AR technology will become common to many devices, like smartphones and tablets. In the recent CES 2017, another manufacturer introduces the AR into their smartphone, the ASUS ZenFone AR.
As for now, only the Detroit Institute of Arts is offering Google Tango devices to their visitors. No announcement from Google what institutions or museums will be next to experience AR technology.
