Review: Sony PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset
S. TurlaThere are many PlayStation 4 compatible headsets out in the market today, and gamers might need help when it comes to choosing the accessory for their consoles. Sony has recently unveiled a PS4 compatible headset called the PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset.
According to Tech Radar, Sony's PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset is "easy-to-setup and excellent sounding." Pros for the headset include "incredible audio performance," "ultra-plushy earpads," and "great value." Cons for the device were the headset's "obtrusive design," "surround sound lacks panache," and "plastic parts feel fragile."
Sony's Platinum Wireless Headset followed 2014's PlayStation Gold Headset. Unlike the Gold Headset, the Platinum Headset is the company's first accessory that offers 3D surround sound. However, as of now only a handful of developers are incorporating 3D surround sound into their titles, such as Naughty Dog's "Uncharted 4: A Thief's End."
Tech Radar's review revealed that Sony's $159/£129/AU$259 headset "worked well" when compared to the other third-party accessories that they were using. Tech Radar's final verdict was, "Despite some underwhelming moments, Sony's new PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset is a great-sounding, ultra-comfortable pair of cans that can make some of the best looking games sound even better." Their review gave Sony's Platinum Wireless Headset a 4/5 rating.
Meanwhile, PC Mag also had good things to say about the latest PS4-compatible headset. Their pros for the headset praised its "very good sound quality, "comfortable" fit and its "solid virtual surround effect." PC Mag's cons for the Platinum Wireless Headset include PS4-only wireless compatibility, and an "underwhelming sub-bass." The online publication also thinks its $159.99 price tag is reasonable given that it is a "high-quality wireless headset."
PC Mag's final verdict was, "The PlayStation Platinum Wireless Headset from Sony offers a comfortable fit and strong audio performance for PS4 gaming," and it also gave the PS4 accessory a 4/5 rating.
