'Kimi No Nawa (Your Name.)' Is The Highest Grossing Anime Film Ever; Opens In U.S., Canada Theaters On April 7

"Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" is now officially the highest grossing anime film of all time. The anime will premiere in US and Canada Theaters on April 7.

"Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" has been breaking records and creating history all over the world since its release in 2016. Just recently, "Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" officially out-grossed "Spirited Away," which used to be the most successful film in Japanese History with a worldwide gross of $289 million. "Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" has officially snatched the highest grossing anime film of all time and currently grosses over $290 million in the international box office.

In Japan alone, "Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" earned $192.5 million. At present, it is the 3rd highest grossing film of all time in Japan. The film has a similar feat in China, where it grossed $81 million, making it the highest grossing Japanese film in China, reported Comic Book.

Meanwhile, Funimation Films announced in January 17 that it will launch Makoto Shinkai's "Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" anime movie in US and Canda theaters on April 7. Funimation will handle the film screenings for both the original Japanese with English subtitles and for the English-dubbed version.

Moreover, Funimation disclosed that the band RADWIMPS is recording English versions of the songs it produced for the original film. According to Anime News Network, these latest tracks from RADWIMPS will be featured in the English-dubbed version of "Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)".

Makoto Shinkai, who made "Voices of a Distant Star," which received recognition due to its breathtaking visuals and mature themes, directed the anime movie "Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)." The animation department is headed by Masashi Ando, who has done work on many Studio Ghibli movies such as "Spirited Away" and "Princess Mononoke."

"Kimi no Na wa (Your Name.)" is released in cinemas worldwide and set to be released in more. Moreover, the anime movie has been nominated for Best Animated Feature at the forthcoming 89th Academy Awards.
