The status of "Wayward Pines" on FOX has not yet been fully decided on. Its first season received a lot of praise, but reportedly had a decline during the airtime of its second. Still, FOX Entertainment President David Madden told the press that "a lot of conversations are going on" regarding the "Wayward Pines" renewal.

"These conversations are complex," Madden said during the 2017 Television Critics Association event, according to Buddy TV. "We hope to be able to announce something shortly."

It has been reported that FOX exhausted all three of the Blake Crouch's "Wayward Pines" books in the first season. However, Executive Producer M. Night Shyamalan is convinced that there is still more to tell for "Wayward Pines" Season 3, which will wrap up the franchise's story.

"I think we can say it is a three-season story," Shyamalan said during this year's Wonder Con, as reported by Movie News Guide. "If we get the opportunity to tell the third and final season, we can finish the story."

Since the finale of the franchise's second season, there had been very little news about a renewal. This led fans to believe that the sci-fi show had already been cancelled. However, Fox Chairman Gary Newman has confirmed that "Wayward Pines" Season 3 is, indeed, coming soon.

"'Wayward' is not cancelled," Newman said, according to Deadline. "But, it will not be on this summer. 'Wayward' did not come together quickly enough for us to have it this summer."

The network's bosses have not forgotten about a "Wayward Pines" Season 3 renewal at all. Based on Newman's statements, the delay might have been prolonged as they have not yet chosen the actors just yet. "There have been discussions about casting," he said. "We are still talking about it."

When "Wayward Pines" Season 3 premieres, viewers are expected to be taken to a totally different world. "The Abbies will evolve into something else," Crouch revealed.
