Meghan Markle opens up and remembers her family's experience with discrimination, being biracial. As a daughter of an African-American mother and a Caucasian father, she recalls how being half black and half white affected parts of her life.

From being in school to finding acting jobs as an adult, Markle recalls the "numerous black jokes" told in front of her by people who don't gather she is "mixed;" oblivious of her status as "the ethnically ambiguous fly on the wall." This continues to haunt her, she says.

The Royal Girlfriend & Her Share Of Discrimination

In fact, more recently, after the "Suits" actress started officially dating Prince Harry, her mixed race culture has become a target for racist bashing. This prompted Kensington Palace to come to her defense and issued an official statement in November. The statement urged the public to respect the actress' privacy after she was thrown derogatory remarks in the national news through the "racial undertones of comment pieces" and "the outright sexism and racism of social media trolls and web editorial commentaries," notes Bazaar.

Empowering Message About Racial Identity

The "inspirational lifestyle" website, The Tig, where she serves as an editor-in-chief, is where Megan Markle "found herself." She once again shared her article published first in 2015 as a tribute to Martin Luther King, Jr. this year. There, the 35-year-old Markle recounts the trying times her parents' experienced from discrimination and expressed her deep gratitude to those who paved their way before her.

"As my mixed culture may have formed a gray area around my self-identification, keeping me with a foot on both sides of the fence, I have come to embrace that," Meghan wrote in her Elle UK op-ed. "To say who I am, to share where I'm from, to express my pride in being a strong, confident mixed-race woman.

Meanwhile, life for Meghan is a lot different than those before her, as she could be truly princess-bound. Given the fact that Prince Harry shows he is serious about her by introducing her to his sister-in-law, the Duchess of Cambridge Kate Middleton, a few days ago, according to reports. She even met Kate's daughter, Princess Charlotte.
