Electronic Arts Supports Nintendo Switch with 'FIFA' at Launch; Other Games Pegged To Follow
Regin OlimberioIt appears that developer Electronic Arts have backpedalled a bit on the whole Nintendo Switch mayhem after it confirmed that only "FIFA" will be released when the platform launches. EA executive vice president Patrick Soderlund explained that "FIFA" was chosen for Nintendo Switch because it is a stable franchise and the biggest money-maker so far.
It would seem that it might take some time before other big EA titles apart from "FIFA" can be playable on the Nintendo Switch. "Battlefield," "Mass Effect" or "Dragon Age" might be routing toward Nintendo Switch, but details have been very scarce as of the moment.
Make no mistake about it, "FIFA" is not a bad accompaniment for Nintendo Switch. Soderlund spoke the truth when he said that "FIFA" has captured the most markets and age groups. Among all EA games, Soderlund also pointed that "FIFA" has the widest reach, UsGamer reported.
Here is something interesting from Soderlund's statement: EA will give Nintendo Switch full support after its launch. A good analogy for the statement is that EA will commit to release more games other than "FIFA" based on how the game will sell and how Nintendo Switch will capture the market.
Soderlund also stressed that EA is a "platform-agnostic" company, adding that "FIFA" is a test for Nintendo Switch and if gamers goes to it, so will EA's other games. Of course, high hopes have been gambled over Nintendo Switch, IGN cited.
"FIFA" and the Nintendo Switch-EA scenario is nothing new. There was much enthusiasm during the stint of predecessor Nintendo Wii U and EA gave full support. Back then, "FIFA 13," "Madden NFL," "Mass Effect" and even "Need for Speed: Most Wanted" joined Wii U.
As a heartbreaking aftermath of the whole Nintendo Wii U affair, "FIFA" and company did not receive another addition because Wii U flunked in the sales chart. At any rate, here is EA gambling "FIFA" again, but in a better and highly-anticipated Nintendo Switch this time around.
