"Once Upon a Time" Season 7 is the latest show to be caught up in cancellation rumors. Even if season 6 is still airing, this kind of reports emerged because the show's viewership rating is going down dramatically.

On the good side, the fairy tale-themed series is doing good in the digital and DVR areas as records show that viewership in these platforms are still great. However, despite this, ABC is still planning to end it.

The cancellation news further intensified as lead actress Jennifer Morrison might be leaving the show. This is because her contract is expiring soon. She only has until April to decided whether she will renew for "Once Upon a Time" Season 7.

Of course, it also depends whether the show itself will get an order to continue for the next season. Meanwhile, on Will Malnati's "The Drop In" podcast, Morrison confirmed that her contract for "Once Upon a Time" is only up to April. "They haven't picked up the show officially yet - they might, they might not," Hollywood Life quoted Morrison as saying.

"We are just waiting now to see if the network decides to continue with the show, if they're going to rework it to be something else, or if they're going to invite people to stay. We're just in a holding pattern right now," she continued.

Likewise, in her interview with Entertainment Weekly, ABC chief Channing Dungey relayed that "Once Upon a Time" Season 7 is going on a new direction. She stressed that this does not necessarily mean that they are getting new cast members but it is just like resetting the show to give it a chance to expand its stories and offer something new to the viewers.

She added that right now, she cannot give concrete details about the show because they have not finalized anything yet. It was revealed that she is also waiting for Executive producers Adam Horowitz and Edward KitsisHorowitz ideas and decision so they can settle things and determine if the show can go on or canceled.

Finally, the fate of "Once Upon a Time" Season 7 is still uncertain at the moment. The sixth season is still on-going and perhaps, if the show will improve its ratings a bit and the producers will come up with good ideas, then ABC will be able to decide early if it can continue or not.
