'The Purge: Election Year's' Betty Gabriel Joins the Cast of 'Stem'
S. TurlaBetty Gabriel has been cast in the upcoming movie "Stem," which will be written and directed by Leigh Whannell. The actress recently portrayed Laney Rucker in the dystopian action film "The Purge: Election Year."
The Hollywood Reporter has revealed that Jason Blum, founder and CEO of Blumhouse Productions, will soon be working with actress Betty Gabriel ("Good Girls Revolt," "12 Deadly Days," "Get Out") in the upcoming movie "Stem." Logan Marshall-Green ("Across the Universe," "Cold Comes the Night," "Sand Castle") will star alongside Gabriel in "Stem."
"The Purge: Election Year" will be shot by Leigh Whannell, who created the "Saw" franchise together with his friend James Wan. Whannel also produced and wrote for "Saw II," "Saw III," and "The Mule."
The film is set "in a near-future when technology controls nearly all aspects of life." Marshall-Green will portray a technophobe who is determined to avenge his murdered wife. He also wants revenge for "his own paralysis-causing injury with the help of an experimental computer-chip implant called Stem."
Fans will have to wait until more details are released about "Stem" since who the actress will portray is being kept under wraps. "Stem" will be backed by Goalpost Pictures and Blumhouse Productions. The upcoming film will be produced by Blum, Kylie Du Fresne ("Cleverman," "Holding the Man," "An Accidental Soldier"), Brian Kavanaugh-Jones ("Insidious," "The Lords of Salem," "Insidious: Chapter 2").
According to JoBlo, "Stem" will be filmed in Melbourne, Australia, Whannel's hometown. Gabriel recently starred in 2016's "The Purge: Election Year," the third film in the film franchise "The Purge."
Cast of "The Purge: Election Year" also included Frank Grillo ("Captain America: Winter Soldier," "The Crash") as Leo Barnes, Elizabeth Mitchell ("Double Bang," "Running Scared") as Senator Charlie Roan, Mykelti Williamson ("Forrest Gump," "Soul of the Game") as Joe Dixon, and Joseph Julian Soria ("High School," "Enter the Dangerous Mind") as Marcos Dali.
