Huawei Mate 9 Review: Looks Like Samsung Note7, Performs Like Google Pixel & Shoots Pictures Like iPhone
Regin OlimberioThe Huawei Mate 9 looks like the Samsung Note 7, having some notable similarities at face value. Huawei wants to make a statement following their decision to go outside the Asian market so they cranked the Mate 9 with several top features. These include a proprietary chipset, re-engineered Nougat and Leica branded camera. Huwei Mate 9 can definitely take on the premium phones currently available in the US.
Going into the heart of Huawei Mate 9, a proprietary HiSilicon Kirin 960 processor drives this speed demon. This type has an eight-core processing power achieved by combining 4 ARM 2.4GHz Cortex A73 and 4 lesser 1.8GHz Cortex A53. Greenbot described the experience as faster than Pixel's Snapdragon 821. A responsive touch from the slightest to scrubbing the touch panel.
Even if Huawei Mate 9 owners decide to torture their device and unleash everything that it has in its resources, battery life wouldn't give way easily. The phone has 4000mAh which can last whole day even with heavy use. Even if it drains juice at the end of the day, Mate 9 sports a SuperCharge feature that makes it full charged in just over an hour.
A 5.9-inch display is the main attraction for the Huawei Mate 9, making it a phablet under the "small" category. Compared to the Pixel XL, Mate 9 offers about half an inch of extra screen. There is balance between low-density 373ppi and high-resolution 1080p as well.
A Leica camera is the biggest asset of Mate 9, since flagship models usually feature similar high-end snaps. The rear camera offers a 20 megapixel monochrome while its front-facing cam has a 12 megapixel RBG sensor, The Telegraph reported. Pixel's photo still stands out when compared side by side with Huawei's, but the difference can be negligible. However, an optical image stabilization, dual-tone LED flash and f/2.2 aperture make up for that loss.
