'Supervillain Parents' Revealed for Marvel's 'Runaways'
S. TurlaEarly in February, Marvel revealed the cast of Hulu's upcoming show "Runaways," which is based on the comics of the same name. Now, the actors and actresses who will portray their parents have also been announced.
According to Collider, the "Runaways" Marvel comics are about six teenagers whose parents are all supervillains. After finding out this awful truth, the children escape from their villainous parents and try to right all of their wrongs.
The "Runaways" parents will be portrayed by James Marsters ("Buffy the Vampire Slayer"), Annie Wersching ("24"), Kevin Weisman ("Alias"), Brigid Brannagh ("Army Wives"), and Ever Carradine ("Major Crimes"). The rest of the parents will be played by Ryan Sands ("The Wire"), Angel Parker ("The People v. O.J. Simpson"), Brittany Ishibashi ("Emily Owens M.D."), James Yaegashi ("Broadway's Breakfast at Tiffany's"), and Kip Pardue ("Ray Donovan"), per TV Line. The parents of the "Runaways" belong to a group called "the Pride."
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, producers of Hulu's "Runaways," shared, "This cast is an abundance of riches. We are so excited to have assembled our Pride, though for the fate of humanity we should be very concerned."
Brian K. Vaughn, the co-creator of the "Runaways" comics and series executive consultant, added, "[This series] has enough great actors to support two shows, but I love that this project contains multiple generations of incredible talent all in one story."
Marsters and Carradine will portray Victor and Janet Stein, Chase's (Gregg Sulkin, "Faking It") parents. Victor is a strict "engineering genius" who expects a lot from his son, and Janet is the "perfect PTA mom harboring a brilliant mind of her own, and who longs for more from her life."
Wersching and Pardue portray Leslie and Frank Dean, Carolina's (Virginia Gardner) parents. Leslie is a "poised and skilled leader whose charisma draws in devoted allies and followers" while Frank is a "former teen star who rode a short-lived movie career and is now teeming with insecurity."
Weisman and Brannagh play Dale and Stacey Yorkes, Gert's (Ariela Barer) parents. Dale is a "bioengineer whose deep love for his family oftentimes falls short," and Stavey, also a bioengineer, "utilizes a more progressive approach to her parenting style."
Sands and Parker portray Geoffrey and Catherine Wilder, Alex's (Rhenzy Feliz) parents. Geoffrey easily shifts from "approachable father to intimidating strategist," and Cathering is a"successful lawyer, deliberate and calculating in both her words and actions."
Ishibashi and Yaegashi are Tina and Robert Minoru, parents to Nico (Lyrica Okano). Tina is a perfectionist "tiger mom" who is also "a brilliant innovator and ruthless CEO" while Robert is "a gentle and brilliant beta, 'the Woz to his wife's Jobs'."
