‘The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild’ DLC Update: Here’s What Nintendo Has To Say About The Paid Expansion Pass
Arianne GiftNintendo surprised fans when it announced that "The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild" will have a DLC Expansion Pass, the first in the franchise. To explain the move, the company's senior product marketing manager Bill Trinen spilled out some details on the paid DLC in a bid to defend it.
"I think one of the things that's unique about the way Nintendo develops games is when we're working on a game... you guys know that it's essentially we use every last minute to make the game as good as we possibly can," Trinen said in an interview with IGN. "... really they [the dev team] said, 'You know we've made this massive world of Hyrule, we've spent a long time building it. It would be a waste to just make one game and have that be it.'"
Trinen continued to explain that Nintendo started wrapping its head on how it would do "The Breath of the Wild" DLC. The first content will be released several months after the game official launches, while the second one will launch a few months after the first. The reason for this, according to the exec, is that the DLC is in development.
The strategy concerning "The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild" DLC is similar to Nintendo's move with the DLC for "Mario Kart 8." In the mentioned game's case, the goal of Nintendo was to give gamers the option to purchase the additional content together with the game itself the moment they go shopping in a store.
For "Breath Of The Wild," Trinen said that the DLC is a way of informing fans that more quality content is to be expected, as per GameSpot. According to Trinen, this is a way for Nintendo to letting players know that that they will be getting more "The Legend Of Zelda" in the near future.
"The Legend Of Zelda: Breath Of The Wild" releases March 3, priced at $59.99. Its Expansion Pass will be available for $19.99, and with it are two DLC packs.
