New 'Futurama' Mobile Game: 'Worlds of Tomorrow' Features Original Voices For Fry, Leela and Bender; Original Animators Also On Board
Arianne GiftThe collective cries of fans of the cult classic "Futurama" can be heard from all over the world as it was recently announced that the hit animated show will be coming to mobile devices. The upcoming game titled "Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow" will feature the original cast members, as well as the show's original animators.
Details on "Futurama: Worlds of Tomorrow" are scarce for now, but according to USA Today, its gameplay will be all about fighting and traveling to other planets within the "Futurama" universe. The upcoming title will be available on Google Play Store and Apple's App Store, as well as Amazon's app store reportedly available in the summer.
Hardcore fans of "Futurama" are up for a throwback as the new game will see a partnership with the show's original creative team. Cast members Billy West, Katey Sagal and John DiMaggio are set to return as the voices for Fry, Leela and Bender. Working behind the scenes are producer David X and creator Matt Groening, and Rough Trade Studios along with Cohen will helm the animation.
"Futurama is back, bigger and better than ever! Or possibly smaller and equally good. But either way, it's back!," Cohen announced in a press release. "We've got completely new stories from the original writers, cast, and animators. This is the real 'Futurama' deal."
"Futurama" premiered on Fox in 1999 and ran for four seasons before it got cancelled in 2003. The animated series has since released four DVD movies, and returned via Comedy Central in 2010 and ended in 2013. Reruns of "Futurama" continue to play on Comedy Central, and are available on Netflix.
The new "Futurama" mobile game isn't the first gaming effort for the show. In 2015, "Futurama: Game of Drones" was released; its gameplay likened to "Candy Crush Saga." In 2003, "Futurama: The Video Game" was also launched for the PlayStation2 and Xbox. The game is free, with add-ons that cost $1 to $50.
