'MacGyver' Season 1 Episode 17 Recap: The Phoenix Team Tries to Clear Their Name in 'Ruler' [Spoilers]
S. TurlaIn "Ruler,' Mac and the Phoenix Foundation team must figure out how to clear their name while they are falsely branded as terrorists. "Ruler" is the seventeenth episode of "MacGyver" Season 1.
According to Gossip and Gab, "MacGyver" Season 1 Episode 17, titled "Ruler," begins with Angus MacGyver, Jack Dalton, and Riley Davis engaged in a shooting match. Wilt Bozer then turns up to offer them a ride to the airport. However, the next scene reveals that up to this point, everything that happened was just a dream.
Bozer's first mission with the team involves recovering a bomb and taking it to a "secluded area" to avoid and minimize casualties. The team retrieves the bomb, and they escape the van "just before the bomb goes off. All seems well and good, but the team is shocked when the Amsterdam police think that they were responsible for the bombing. The team flees, making them look even guiltier.
Because of the implication that Mac and the group were spying, Matty Webber is forced to disavow Mac, Dalton, Davis, and Bozer. Now the four are stuck in the Netherlands, where they are belied to be terrorists and they don't have access to the Phoenix Foundation's resources.
Dalton informs the other team members that he once knew a man who, like them, was disavowed. Unfortunately, he was incarcerated for four years and he never had the chance to go back home. With their options running out, the team reaches out to Olivia Parson, the woman who was carrying the bomb that implicated Mac and the team.
Parson tells them that "someone called her, told her to pick up the package and then drop it once someone followed her." Mac and the others then realize that whoever left the bomb set them up. They think it was Patricia Thornton, their former boss.
Riley then tells the others that Thornton's encryption key matches the one on the messages Parson received. But there's no way of proving that the bomb was planted by Thornton.
Matty, on the other hand, tries to help Mac and the team by sending them information so they can clear their names. Riley thinks she can do so, but only if she gets access to the Dutch Intelligence Agency. Bozer is now tasked with making prosthetics that can fool the Agency's security.
Bozer is at a loss because he does not have access to his materials, and Mac tells him he now has to improvise. At the Dutch Intelligence Agency, the team is found out but thankfully, Riley had the chance to broadcast footage that proves that the team retrieved the bomb instead of planting it.
At the Phoenix Foundation, Mac tells Bozer that he did well on his first mission overseas. Bozer then admits that he wants to stay at the lab for the time being. "Ruler," "MacGyver" Season 1 Episode 17, was one of the "better" installments of Season 1, per CarterMatt. Episode 17 was full of "ingenuity" and "humor," and Bozer got a chance to use and show off his skills to help the team.
