DC Extended Universe (DCEU) fans will soon see another welcome sight on the big screen. Recent reports have revealed that a "Nightwing" movie is in the works.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Chris McKay, whose recent work includes "The Lego Batman Movie," is in talks to direct the upcoming "Nightwing" live-action film. The film for the movie will be written by Bill Dubuque ("The Accountant").

In the DC comics, Dick Grayson is Nightwing. Grayson is more commonly known as the original Robin, and he was "the youngest member of a family of acrobats known as the Flying Graysons." The character was created by Bob Kane, Bill Finger, and illustrator Jerry Robinson. When his parents are murdered Bruce Wayne/Batman become's Grayson's legal guardian.

In the 1980s, Grayson became the leader of the Teen Titans while in the DC universe, "a succession of young men took on the mantle of Robin while Nightwing became a popular character in his own right, headlining his own comics and appearing in animated movies."

Nightwing has already appeared on screen in "The Lego Batman Movie" where he was voiced by Michael Cera. The upcoming "Nightwing" live-action film is one of the several films Warner Bros. is developing that feature well-loved DC characters.

Other films include "Gotham City Sirens," which will be directed by David Ayer and will feature the female villains of the DCEU. Margot Robbie will reprise her role as Harley Quinn in the upcoming film.

McKay "believes Nightwing will be an essential part of the DC Extended Universe," per IGN. During the Shanlian Batman Podcast, the director talked about "Nightwing" live-action movie.

While Wayne is "more dour and angry" due to his family background, Grayson is different because he grew up in the circus. McKay said, "They're people who live hand-to-mouth and that's something that informs him and his attitude." He added that he thinks Grayson is fascinating because, like Wayne, his family dies in a tragic manner.

McKay also talked about how he likes Nightwing, who possesses similar faults as his guardian Wayne yet pushes on even though so many negative things have happened in his life.
