'Doubt' Season 1 Episode 2 Recap: Tension Boils Up Between Sadie and Albert in 'Then and Now' [Spoilers]

S. Turla

Sadie struggles to maintain a veneer of professionalism around Billy in "Then and Now," the second episode of "Doubt" Season 1. Cameron also struggles when her client has to testify against her cousin.

In "Doubt" Season 1 Episode 2 "Then and Now," Albert makes Billy crack after questioning him in under two minutes, per Celeb Dirty Laundry. Sadie advises Billy to "toughen up and not take the questions personally." He then apologizes for kissing her, but she tells Billy to focus on the case.

Isaiah assembles the team, yet everyone leaves for their hearings. Sadie is defending Judge Porter against rape charges from Gina, his wife of fifteen years. Their children insist that because of Gina's Alzheimer's, she is not able to give her consent. Sadie then replies that the step-children are only taking out their anger on Judge Porter, who they "never liked."

At Sadie's office, she is overwhelmed with boxes full of data about Billy's case. Knowing it might take him and Sadie hours to go through everything, Albert asks Tiffany to start without them.

Sadie then reschedules a meeting with Gina since the latter seems agitated. Meanwhile, Cameron's case is postponed since her star witness is missing. Cameron's client is offered a deal to testify against his cousin, and the team is given 24 hours to consider.

Judge Porter receives an offer from the prosecution judge for a plea. It includes no jail time, but he will have to stay away from his wife. Judge Porter refuses the offer so they proceed to the trial, which begins with Gina's daughter testifying that "she walked into her mother's hospital room and found [him] and Gina having sex." The daughter noticed Gina's shock since Judge Porter told her doctor that he won't initiate intimacy with her anymore.

Sadie then questions the daughter about the fact that the judge visited his wife every day. Sadie also coaxes Gina's daughter into admitting that Gina misses Judge Porter ever since he has been under arrest.

Isaiah and the team discuss the deal offered to Cameron's client, and they agree that taking it means a death sentence for him. If they accept, he will be labeled a snitch and killed "within the week" in his own neighborhood. But the client takes the deal and is sent to witness protection.

The doctor Sadie found for Judge Porter's case deems Gina incompetent, and he refuses to testify for her. Sadie calls Gina's main nurse to the stand, who reveals Judge Porter makes Gina happy. The nurse also says that Gina is vocal about what doesn't make her happy.

Billy is told to take a leave of absence because patients are wary of him now that his case has been made public. On the other hand, as Judge Porter is called to the stand, he tearfully declares his love for Gina. His step-daughter then apologizes, and he wins the case.

Isaiah assures Cameron that she did the right thing by accepting the deal. Billy then tells Albert and Sadie that he and Amy broke up after he cheated on her. But he assures Sadie that he is a different man now.

However, according to The Tracking Board, Tiffany and Nick find a photo of Billy on the night of the murder. He apparently changed his shirt, and they start to doubt his innocence.
