iMac 2017, Mac Pro Mini Edition Could Be In The Offing This Year; Here's How The Next Mac Pro Could Look Like
Vinay PatelApple is on the verge of updating a couple of long-ignored products including the iMac desktop and Mac Pro. While the iMac is said to get Intel Xeon processor as part of this upgrade, the Mac Pro is also likely to receive a modular concept and a Mini edition as well, this year.
Super-Fast Apple iMac 2017: Specifications
The current generation iMac was released two years ago and has been eligible for an upgrade for a long time. Taking this into consideration, Apple VPs spilled the beans about the plans to upgrade the iMac in 2017 and also divulged details about the specifications of the iconic desktop as reported by Pike's Universum (via MacRumors).
The newfangled iMac is likely to hit the store shelves in two models i.e. 21.5-inch variant that packs Intel Core i5 or Core i7 processor and 27-inch model that uses Intel E3-1285 v6 processor, which alludes to Xeon or higher. It's worth noting, though, if Apple decides to go for a Xeon processor, the iMac 2017 could turn out to be more of a professional workstation.
Aside from that, the super-fast iMac 2017 is expected to pack 16GB of RAM, equipped with Error Correction Code RAM that finds and fixes memory errors. The low-end version of the new iMac, on the other hand, could pack standard RAM. There's also hearsay that both variants of the iMac 2017 will carry 16GB of RAM, upgradable to 32GB / 64GB.
Furthermore, the iMac 2017 might pack an array of other awe-inspiring specs such as standard fusion drives with 1TB capacity, more accessible ports, USB-C, USB 3.0 and Thunderbolt 3. External GPU support is likely to handle the needs of applications that call for higher graphics.
Mac Pro Mini 2017
As expected, Apple has kept the details about the next Mac Pro under wraps; however, a Germany-based designer known as CURVED/labs have teased a concept. The designers anticipate the new Mac Pro to bear a striking resemblance with a Mac Mini with a Touch Bar right at the front, while also sporting a modular design and a pro display, TheVerge reported.
The designers posted a 2-minute 38-second long video footage (see below) to explain their theory, which comprised adding a headphone jack to Mac Pro. The 2017 edition of the Mac Pro is also said to come with two graphic cards, SSD (solid state drives) and hard disks. The concept also hints at a 27-inch Retina display connected at the back with the help of a USB accessory.
