On Oct.23, Apple's special event witnessed the launch of the fourth generation iPad along with a series of other iDevices, which included the sleek iMac, the 13-inch MacBook, and the Mac Mini. Apple has also released an update to the OS X Mountain Lion called OS X 10.8.2.

Apple officially announced the OS X Mountain Lion, the company's desktop and server operating system, on its Web site on Feb. 16, 2012, as a successor to Mac OS X 10.7 Lion. The OS X Mountain Lion was released later in July 2012.

The latest OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 update is available for download from Apple's Web site.

"This update is recommended for all 13" MacBook Pro with Retina Display, 21.5" iMac (Late 2012) and Mac mini (Late 2012) systems. It includes all features and updates from OS X Mountain Lion v10.8.2 plus system-specific enhancements and fixes for Late 2012 systems," indicates Apple's Web site.

The update allows a single sign-in for Facebook and includes Facebook as an option when sharing links and photos. Users can also find Facebook friends' contact information and profile pictures in Contacts. Furthermore, Facebook notifications are available in the Notification Center.

The update allows the users to share Game Center scores on Facebook, Twitter, Mail, or Messages and Facebook friends are included in Game Center friend recommendations. Users get the Facebook Like button for games and can challenge friends to beat their score or achievement.

The OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 update also offers other new features like power Nap support for MacBook Air (late 2010) and iMessages sent to a user's phone number appear in Messages on the user's Mac. Furthermore, users can add passes from Safari and Mail on Mac to Passbook on a user's iPhone or iPod Touch running on iOS 6. The update also provides new shared Reminders list and FaceTime now receives calls sent to a user's phone number.

The new sort option enables users to sort notes by title, the date it was edited, and when it was created. The Dictation feature in the update supports Mandarin, Cantonese, Spanish, Korean, Canadian English, Canadian French, and Italian and the Dictionary app now includes a French definition dictionary. A full list of new features can be found on Apple's Web site.

With the new OS X Mountain Lion 10.8.2 update released with new features, time will tell if Apple can divert PC users to the Mackintosh computers.
