The biggest exclusive First-Person Shooter on Microsoft's Xbox line of consoles is Halo, and with the release of the Halo 4 not too long ago, the franchise could only get bigger.
According to a Microsoft announcement during a Halo 4 advertisement, the company has managed to sell over 50 million copies of Halo since the first game was released 11 years ago.
Currently, there are 8 different Halo games that managed to make this popular franchise worthy of the 50 million copies sold.
The title, Halo 4, managed to generate $220 million in revenue on the first day of going on sale, and $300 million in the first week. That is quite a lot for a game that is exclusive to a single platform; these numbers will surely go up with the release of Halo 5 in a few years on the Xbox 720, and possibly the Xbox 360 since the console has done so well for itself.
Halo first began life in the hands of Bungie; however, Bungie left Microsoft and 343 Industries took over the reins and developed Halo 4, the first game in a new three-part series. The company is currently working on Halo 5 and Halo 6, if those games do well; expect another trilogy to be announced soon after the sixth game
Microsoft is not making this huge achievement go unnoticed. The company has announced a free to enter Halo 4 tournament called the 'Halo 4 Infinity Challenge.' This challenge will begin come Dec 17 and participants will have the chance to win many great prizes, including a 2013 Ford F-150 SVT Raptor truck designed by 343 Industries.
That's not all, the winner of the Spartan Ops tournament will have the chance to be in Halo 5, though it is not known what role this person will play in the new game. Players who are interested in registering for the Halo Infinity Challenge can register via the promotions Web site.
