After a huge success of Galaxy S3 in the year 2012, Samsung is all set to repeat its shining performance this year too as it is just months away from releasing its much awaited mobile phone.
As the Mobile World Congress to be held in Barcelona next month is fast approaching, Samsung fans are eagerly waiting to see the first Tizen-based mobile. However, Samsung has some bigger plans.
A recent report by The Korea Times suggests that the South Korean tech giant is eyeing to sell over 510 million phones this year, and will go way ahead of its bitter rival Apple as far as sale of the units are concerned.
''Of the 510 million handsets it plans to sell, 390 million are slated as smartphones and 120 million, feature and budget phones,'' The Korea Times quoted an executive from one of Samsung's key suppliers as saying.
The report also indicates towards the sale of phones under Galaxy flagship coming down as the company will be focusing more on its budget phones and targeting the markets of developing nations.
"Aside of its Galaxy smartphones and tablets, which have emerged as the main competitors to Apple's iPhones and iPads, Samsung is planning to release a lineup of devices powered by Microsoft's Windows 8 mobile operating system. It will also push products that support TIZEN software, which Samsung jointly developed with semiconductor rival Intel," the Korea Times reported.
According to Samsung Electronics mobile chief Shin Jong-kyun, company's aim was to sell more than 40 million Galaxy S3s in 2012 from its earlier prediction of 35 million. Samsung released the device in September.
Samsung's next product under the Galaxy series, rumored to be named Galaxy S4, is highly awaited across the world. The phone is reported to come with an S-pen stylus like Galaxy Note and Note 2.
According to a Korean Web site Enuri, the Galaxy S4 will come with a 5-inch AMOLED display, which according to a Russian website Rozetked, will be called 'Grand AMOLED Display'.
The phone will also be equipped with a full HD 1080×1920 resolution, quad-core processor, a frequency of 2.0 MHz, and a 13-megapixel camera.
The biggest rumored feature of the new phone is the laser keyboard. Though the technology is in use for some years, it has not been implemented in any smartphone so far.
The Galaxy S4 is expected to come into the market in April this year with rumored Android 5.0 Key Lime Pie operating system.
