Here's some great news for all those who are using the HTC 8X running the Windows Phone operating system.
Per reports, Verizon has started pushing out a brand new firmware update for all its users owning a Windows Phone-based HTC 8X.
This is quite welcoming news for a majority of users owning the device as they have been waiting anxiously for the 'Portico' operating system update. However, the Portico refresh is not the only good news as the update will also be coming with its fair share of unique features, as well as the option to enjoy a bunch of special fixes to boot.
"Some of the new features and improvements are said to accompany the radio/firmware portion of the update, where there will be an extra layer which delivers some carrier-side requested fixes," Ubergizmo states.
With the new firmware 1532.20.20011.605 and radio 0.17.50.1218 in line to arrive, hopefully the smartphone will see an improvement in performance as far as Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are concerned.
Moreover, users can now choose an MP3 file as a ring tone, with enhanced security feature so that users can restrict calls to a limited list of numbers, among other new features.
"Verizon Wireless is pleased to announce a new software update, Firmware: 1532.20.20011.605; Radio: 0.17.50.1218, for your Windows Phone 8x by HTC," the company writes.
The Portico update, or Windows Phone 8 10211, sports a fix for device and OS stability (concerning random resets and freezes) and adds some new features including SMS call reject, mass select, SMS drafts, constant Wi-Fi connection (even when the display is off), Wi-Fi hotspot finder and even an option to turn off image-downloads in Internet Explorer.
The update shouldn't be taking more than 20 to 30 minutes, and will breathe a fresh air of life into all the HTC 8Xs under Verizon.
Check out the full list of features below (Firmware: 1532.20.20011.605; Radio: 0.17.50.1218):
Wi-Fi and Bluetooth profile have been improved for performance.
Increased flexibility to manage browser history.
Added capability to select an MP3 file as a ring tone.
Incremental security feature allowing user to restrict calls to a limited list of numbers.
Messaging enhancements to allow user to edit an MMS while forwarding.
User can auto-retry with connectivity, multi-select recipients for a message and ignore calls with SMS reply.
