Despite previous rumors and even reports from T-Mobile representatives, the Nokia Lumia 810 apparently won't get a software update to support 4G LTE.
Many people expected the software update to arrive soon for the Lumia 810 and enable its 4G LTE connectivity, but T-Mobile seems to have different plans, at least for now. The news comes just days after the carrier officially unveiled its new Uncarrier contract-free plans, in addition to the initial switch-in of its 4G LTE network.
T-Mobile started sending out software updates to the Samsung Galaxy Note 2 devices on its network, enabling the high-speed 4G LTE connection. Some Galaxy Note 2 owners in New York even enjoyed a nice surprise as T-Mobile tested the 4G LTE signal in the city on the day of the launch.
The Nokia Lumia 810 was supposed to get a similar update soon, but that no longer seems to be the case. According to a T-Mobile statement published by Engadget, the handset can support 4G LTE, but it will not.
"While the Nokia Lumia 810 features a chipset which provides the hardware capability to support both HSPA+42 and LTE, the device will not automatically access our LTE network, and at this time, it will not receive an update to do so," explains T-Mobile.
The Nokia Lumia 810 is a variant of the Lumia 820 handset, which uses AT&T's 4G network. Its Lumia 822 sibling, meanwhile, is Verizon's 4G LTE version of the phone. Back in early February, reports noted the FCC approved the Nokia Lumia 810 for 4G LTE connectivity with T-Mobile, with a "confidentiality date" of June 24 in effect. Naturally, everyone expected to see the handset updated to support 4G LTE. One possibility is that the Nokia Lumia 810 might finally get that update, or at least some more news on it, closer to the June 24 date.
For now, T-Mobile users who want to enjoy the carrier's 4G LTE network can do so only if they live in a certain area and own an iPhone 5 or Galaxy Note 2. The BlackBerry Z10, the HTC One and the Samsung Galaxy S4 will soon join the fray, but the Lumia 810 remains out of the loop.
