Samsung Galaxy 3 owners on the Sprint network were waiting for Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update when they got the notification of a software update on their devices for an OTA (over the air) update.
The users were, obviously, disappointed as the software update wasn't the Jelly Bean update, but the disappointment was reduced, as the maintenance update brought new features and fixes along with it.
The update version L710VPBMD4 fixes the Homescreen bug in the Galaxy S3 devices and at the same time it comes with the Multi-View feature.
With the help of the Multi-View feature, a user can run two different applications at the same time, keeping both of them visible on a split screen. The feature helps the users who always want to multitask with their smartphones.
The update also brings advanced camera features and enhances the gallery. Bulk SMS enhancement and inclusion of Paper Artist are also added advantages of the maintenance update.
Confirming the release of the update, Sprint on its support page states, "Software updates may be released in stages and can take several days for delivery. If prompted that an update is available, follow the onscreen instructions to complete the installation."
Sprint's Galaxy S3 users were waiting for the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean update, as devices running on Verizon and even smaller carriers like C Spire and Cricket got the update more than a month ago. Sprint's last Android update from Galaxy S3 devices was in October last year when it released the Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean update.
After the last Android update, this is Sprint's second maintenance update for the Galaxy S3 devices and now it seems that the carrier is going to skip the Android 4.1.2 Jelly Bean and release Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update directly.
According to an earlier report from SamMobile, the Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean update is almost ready for Samsung's Galaxy S3 and Note 2 smartphone, and the firmware update might be rolled out sometime in May or June this year.
"Android 4.2.2 updates Galaxy S III and Note II May/June," SamMobile tweeted on its official Twitter page.
