The much-rumored Moto X and the HTC One seem to be heading to Verizon, set to launch on Big Red's network in time for the back-to-school season.
While Motorola confirmed that the Moto X is very much real and on its way, it did not disclose anything else about its upcoming powerhouse. Great launches, however, are always preceded by all sorts of rumors and leaks that give some insight into what to expect.
What seems to be Verizon's launch schedule for the next few weeks has just leaked courtesy of Phone Arena, which claims to have received it from an anonymous tipster. According to that schedule, the Moto X is set to "go to market" on Aug. 23, joining America's largest carrier.
The good news doesn't stop here. Verizon customers have been waiting for months to get the HTC One and it now seems the smartphone is finally ready to make its debut on Aug. 1.
The purported leaked roadmap makes no mention of when the highly-anticipated Moto X will launch on other carriers other than Verizon, or whether it will also be available unlocked. Meanwhile, Verizon's leaked roadmap may show a Moto X launch on Aug. 23, but there's a good chance that the smartphone will launch sooner on another carrier. Verizon is well-known for being late in such instances, and the fact that the HTC One is not available yet on its network stands proof.
At the same time, this purportedly leaked Verizon roadmap may or may not prove to be accurate. Similar screenshots of alleged roadmaps have leaked before, but they didn't always prove to be the real deal. Moreover, companies can change launch dates to their discretion until they announce it to the public, and even announced launch dates are sometimes pushed back.
At a first glance, the leaked Verizon roadmap seems to be the real deal, but there's no guarantee until Verizon makes an official announcement. If it does prove to be accurate, however, Verizon will add significant weight to its lineup of Android flagships.
Moto X and HTC One aside, one notable absence from this alleged roadmap is a next-generation Nexus tablet. The Nexus 7 2, i.e. the second-generation of Google's popular tablet made by ASUS, is rumored to make its debut in the next few weeks. It's unlikely that Verizon wouldn't carry the new Nexus tablet, but the roadmap shows no signs of it.
Considering that this roadmap is just a leak and nothing is confirmed just yet, things could well be different. Either way, the Moto X should make its debut soon and the HTC One is expected to join Verizon's network anytime now. As for the second-generation Nexus 7 tablet, a July debut seems very likely if Google follows a yearly launch cycle. The first Nexus 7 made its debut in July 2012 and Google is expected to unveil a new 7-inch tablet this month.
