The LG G Pad 8.3 seems to be headed to Verizon Wireless, as the slate has just dropped by the FCC with support for Big Red's 4G LTE bands.
Smaller tablets in the 7-to-8-inch category seem to be gaining momentum, and the new LG G Pad 8.3 seems poised to challenge Apple's popular iPad Mini. The slate packs some impressive specs and features, including a beautiful HD display with narrow bezels and an elegant brushed aluminum case. The LG G Pad 8.3 is also the first tablet to join the Google Play Edition family, which suggests that even Google was impressed by the slate's performance.
The tablet has now dropped by the FCC with model number VK810 and it apparently features 4G LTE support for bands 4 and 13, which are the bands Verizon Wireless uses. If this FCC listing is any indication, the LG G Pad 8.3 should hit Big Red's network soon enough.
For those unfamiliar with the device, the LG G Pad 8.3 sports a true-to-life-color full HD IPS display with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 and a pixel density of 273 ppi. Under the hood, the tablet packs a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 600 processor clocked at 1.7GHz, coupled with 2GB of RAM for a smooth performance. The slate ships with 16GB of internal storage capacity, complete with a microSD card slot for additional memory of up to 64GB.
Other specs include an 8-megapixel rear camera, a 1.3-megapixel front shooter, and a 4,600 mAh battery. Connectivity-wise, the tablet supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 4.0, and 4G LTE. On the software side, the LG G Pad 8.3 ships with Android 4.3 Jelly Bean on board, but an update to Android 4.4 KitKat is likely not far off.
While the FCC listing suggests that the LG G Pad 8.3 is headed to Verizon Wireless' network, there's no word so far regarding when the carrier would start offering the tablet. Verizon has yet to make an official announcement in this regards, but we'll keep you up to date as soon as we have more information.
